Things that I ponder while I look for a Charles Shackleford throwback online and ultimately conclude that I would settle for a Benoit Benjamin throwback...
- Posted Wednesday, September 12, 2007
(By the way, when Talkhoops.net writer, Phillip Barnett, read the name, Benoit Benjamin, he became enraged and stated that he would "punch anyone wearing a Benoit Benjamin jersery." When asked to elaborate on why he hated Mr. Benjamin so much, he said this:
"My dad went to a game once and said from the fourth row he could hear him breathing during a free throw. I just remember him as a very lazy player."
Good enough for me. I'm now willing to settle for a Michael Cage throwback instead.)
-Will there ever be a cooler backcourt nickname combo than Lee Mayberry and Todd Day, aka "Mayday"?
- I wish I had been alive for the 1961-62 NBA season. Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points and averaged 50.4 points per game along with 25.7 rebounds. Oscar Robertson averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists. And they both lost the MVP vote to Bill Russell (18.9 points, 23.6 rebounds). Boston was 60-20 that year and won their 4th of 8 titles in a row.
- Bill Russell is the most underappreciated player of all time. He'll never get enough praise.
- Dan Majerle is absurdly ridiculous. Here's another look at it.
- Mike Wilbon, aka Willy Buns, has gotten way too far up his own ass. I find it hard to believe that an old balding man that wears glasses and graduated with a journalism degree from Northwestern is tough. But he constantly slurps his own toughness.
- It's too bad that Tim Hardaway hates gays. He was abusive as an offensive player. He and Kenny Anderson are the two most underrated point guards of all time. I would be completely terrified if I had to guard Tim Bug.
- I LOL everytime I think about Chris Childs' NBA career.
-Charlie Ward has probably had the best athletic life of anyone in terms of status. Quarterback for Florida State during their heyday. Point guard for the Knicks. That's a nice wikipedia biography.
- Speaking of felonious, Sheed is hilarious.
- John Wallace of Syracuse fame is the most disappointing NBA player of my lifetime. He should have dominated.
- This is the most ballingest shit ever.
- Finally, Mateen Cleaves is trying to make a comeback into the NBA and it makes me very mad. I know that I can take Mateen on the basketball court. There's no way he could score on me and there's no way he could stop me. I mean, he's Mateen Cleaves. If anyone can set up a matchup between the two of us, I'd greatly appreciate it.
You can email Zach at zharper@talkhoops.net to agree with him or let him know how stupid you think he is.
My Love For the Game
There isn't a better sport than basketball. It is live-action art in motion. It is the simplest game to play and at the same time, the most difficult to find a winning strategy for, game in and game out. Memorable moments for me are KG's series against the Kings in the 2004 playoffs, T-Mac's 13 in 35 seconds, Jason Richardson's dunk contest winner against Desmond Mason, Jordan's jumper in Utah, his strip of Malone before that, John Stockton's winner against Houston and Eddie Johnson's winner against Utah, and Reggie Miller giving the choke sign to Spike Lee.
Players that I miss watching are Mark Jackson, Shawn Kemp, Rod Strickland, Larry Bird, Drazen Petrovic, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Sacramento's Jason Williams, and Laron Profit's calves. And I'll never forget the astonishment that I felt, when I received a text message from my friend Chris, letting me know that Kobe had just dropped 81.
And I've never seen Allan Houston miss a jump shot and no one can convince me that he has.
