4 members of the Talkhoops.net writing team have decided to give their take on who should win NBA awards and dubious honors for this past season. The 4 of us have stated our opinions for the MVP, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, plus many more "honors" from our website. Zach Harper, Brandon Gallawa, Celia Kelly, and Phillip Barnett decide who's most deserving for this year.
Here are the awards.

Will Kobe get the MVP award?

Talkhoops.net contributor, Terry Heiland, has been following the awards races very closely all season long. He's ready to pass out his hardware to those that he feels truly deserve it. Who's been the best executive? The best rookie? The best defensive player and the most improved?

Forget Kevin Garnett. Don't think about LeBron James. Not even Kobe deserves the award. There's one answer and one answer only for who wins the NBA's MVP this year. Chris Paul has been hands down the NBA's Most Valuable Player this season.
Terry Heiland tells us why.

This is the second installment of Zach Harper’s NBA Happenings.  The first one was a month ago and it hit on many different topics that had come up in the NBA.  Most of them were the charting of the growing idiocy of Stephon Marbury.  This installment will be no different.

The departure of Kevin Garnett will take some off the pressure off of Western Conference teams trying to gameplan for one of the best big men to ever play the game. He's the East's problem now.

Kobe

Just like TNT, the LA Lakers know drama. Whether it's Nick Van Exel and Eddie Jones, Shaq and Kobe, or Penny Marshall and Jack Nicholson, there's always something worthy of E! News coverage. This time it's Kobe and the Lakers' brass.
Phillip Barnett explains the situation and why Kobe has the upper hand in this soon to be Made-For-TV movie.

Re-Born in the USA

Team USA has been overhauled and rebuilt in an attempt to regain global dominance in the sport that we invented. The problem is that we've always just thrown big name players onto the team without worrying about chemistry. Now that the rest of the world has caught up to us, Team USA is attempting to find that chemistry.
Zach Harper predicts the final roster.

How the Players are Ranked

There are breakdowns of player's rankings by position to the right of the screen. Players are ranked based on overall ability, contract amount, contract length, potential, past performance, current performance, likely future performance and entertainment value. Potential can be a tricky thing because a player like Greg Oden's potential is much more likely than a player like Andrew Bynum or Johan Petro. These rankings are strictly the opinion of Talkhoops.net creator Zach Harper and any problems with them can be directed here. Your agreements and disagreements will most likely be used in future articles.

Determining the MVP by Numbers

Are these the only two guys worthy of MVP consideration?

MVP voting is flawed by nature because instead of being impartial, voters often find their own biases taking over their thought processes. Instead of allowing this to happen to us, our newest writer has designed and implimented a system for determining who deserves the Most Valuable Player award above his closest competitors. 15 categories are considered to find a true winner.
Celia Kelly breaks down the race and gives us the most logical choice for MVP.

Mateen Cleaves: Perceptions vs. Reality

As Mateen Cleaves realized his dream of winning a NCAA title and being the final shot of the One Shining Moment montage during the post-game celebration, the Michigan State Spartan was on top of the world with endless possibilities in front of him. Since then, his career has been nothing short of a disappointing nightmare. However, he remains confident in his journey through basketball that will hopefully one day bring him back to an NBA roster.
Phillip Barnett gives us a look into the psyche of the former college star and what the future may hold for him in this interview.

The Peja Theory

One thing that can make you crazier than Mercury Morris is having one of your favorite young players not improve as quickly has you expect him to.  In fact, what’s even worse than that is when a player has hit his complete potential at a young age and you realize that he will never get any better than what he brings to the table now.  It’s hard to come to grips with this because you want to believe that throughout someone’s career, they will always find a way to improve on their game and get better.  You want to believe that they will bring something new to the court every year after furiously working during the off-season, and are ready to unleash that new skill on the rest of the league.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t always happen and often a few too many seasons go by until fans and management realize that this player should have been moved long ago.  This is what I call, “The Peja Theory.”
Zach Harper explains his theory and who exemplifies it in today's NBA.

The 2007-2008 NBA season is about one month old so far and has had plenty of interesting things occur.  Boston is back.  LeBron is channeling his inner Big O.   San Antonio and Phoenix are the best teams in basketball once again.  Yi is unbeatable at home.  Dwight Howard may not be the next Shaq but isn’t far from it at this point in his career.  The Bulls are unbearable and Jamario Moon is the talk of Canada.
Zach Harper recaps the first month of the NBA season.

What do Kevin Garnett and Soulja Boy have in common? They're both on the mind of Zach Harper. As the NBA season begins, Zach has plenty of questions on his mind that he attempts to find answers for. Whether it's NBA commercials, NBA players' blogs, or trends of society, he's always thinking about where the NBA is heading. Here are the questions and answers that have left him up at night.

Top 10 Most Useless Players in the NBA

Which has a place in the NBA: Bea or the Vertebeard? Photos Courtesy of nndb.com and nbrpa.com

There comes a time while watching an NBA basketball game when you wonder how easy it must be to make the NBA based on just being taller than the average person.  You see certain players play and think that your favorite team would be better off simply not employing that player and maybe even replacing them with Bea Arthur or Kevin Ollie’s mustache. These players simply boggle the mind. These are the players that are utterly useless. These are the players that keep getting chance after chance to perform and prove their belonging in the league, only to fail miserably and yet maintain their 7 figure + salaries.

Zach Harper has the Top 10 Useless Players in the NBA.

MIAMI ADVICE:  EXPLORE SHAQ’S VALUE

Would the Heat consider dealing the Big Fella? Photo Courtesy of msnbc.com

A year ago at this time we had just witnessed an elite, veteran nine-man rotation hit its stride in the NBA Finals.  The Miami Heat champions were a cast of former All-NBA veterans surrounding a spectacularly blooming young talent.  This Hall-of-Fame grouping came back from two games to nothing to beat the Dallas Mavericks in four straight battles to win the NBA Championship.

This year the Miami Heat finished 44-38 earning the right to get swept out of the playoffs in the first round.  Miami’s roster looked shallow, outmatched and arguably outhustled for many of their 86 games. What have we learned? Cory Elfrink breaks it down.

Top 51 Players Under 25

The NBA is going through what can only be described as rejuvenation.  It almost seems that since 2003 the entire League is in somewhat of a rebuilding mode.  Last season, we saw a 22 year-old star single-handedly lead his team to the finals.  The year before that, Dwyane Wade guided the Heat to a championship in just his third season.  In fact, there was not one 30 year-old among the top six in scoring last year (Ray Allen, 32 this month, was 7th).

In a two-part article, Cory Elfrink explores who are the best players under the age of 25. Players 51 to 26

Hey Sports Guy! Oden Vs. Durant Isn't So Clear Cut
Bill Simmons signs off on Durant too quickly

Talkhoops.net creator, Zach Harper has been a Sports Guy fan since the first time he read his work. He knew that it was another Peter Gammons for him. He knew it was more than just sports. It was entertainment and inspiration.

But Bill Simmons has finally flown off the biased handle by annointing Kevin Durant as the new Sliced Bread. Greg Oden is just as worthy of a first pick as anyone since Tim Duncan. He is something we haven't really seen before. Kevin Durant on the other hand, well we've already seen that show and it resides in Houston.
Bill Simmons' unofficial protege offers a rebuttal.
