| 1. Chicago Bulls |
Derrick Rose | PG | Memphis |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Derrick Rose | PG | Memphis |
| Anaylsis - This is the right pick for the Chicago Bulls. He's a leader on the court, a great defensive player and can play both guard positions. Derrrick Rose allows the Bulls to push the ball and still play defense at a high level. He's going to take 2 or 3 years to develop into an All Star caliber point guard and he needs to work on his shooting, but they had to take the best player with the first pick and they've done that with this pick. |
| 2. Miami Heat |
Michael Beasley | PF | Kansas State |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Michael Beasley | PF | Kansas State |
| Anaylsis - This is probably the right pick here for the Heat. He's arguably the best player in the draft, he's a 20 and 10 guy waiting to happen, and he's potent weapon from all areas of the floor. This allows the Heat to move Udonis Haslem for a point guard. The Heat couldn't gamble on O.J. Mayo or risk moving Beasley and having him become a perennial All Star. Smart selection by Pat Riley. |
| 3. Minnesota Timberwolves |
O.J. Mayo | SG | USC |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
O.J. Mayo | SG | USC |
| Anaylsis - I almost had a heart attack here because Kevin McHale made the right move. Let's see if he ends up trading Mayo for a pack of cigarettes and a gun with no ammunition. Mayo is a dynamic scorer with the ability to become the best player in this draft. He was the top player going into the last college season and now the Wolves end up with him. They have to love their position here and their fortune. |
| 4. Seattle Supersonics |
Russell Westbrook | PG | UCLA |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Eric Gordon | SG | Indiana |
| Anaylsis - This is a bit of a stretch for the Sonics because you can't guarantee that he's going to devleop into a true point guard, but he's a great scorer, a solid defender, and someone that will fill the seats. Kevin Durant loves the pick and that's a good sign. Wherever the Sonics end up, they're going to need star power to sell themselves as an exciting franchise. Westbrook and Durant can fill that role and help lead this team to a lot of wins in a few years. |
| 5. Memphis Grizzlies |
Kevin Love | PF/C | UCLA |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Kevin Love | PF/C | UCLA |
| Anaylsis - The Grizzlies didn't know how to take all of the remaining point guards in the draft class so they settled with Kevin Love. He's a great pick here and so far is the pick of the night. He's the best post scorer since Tim Duncan, the best passing big man since Wes Unseld, and one of the smartest rookies in the draft. He's extremely strong and knows all of the angles. He will be able to ignite the Grizzlies' offense. Great pick. |
| 6. New York Knicks |
Danilo Gallinari | F | Italy |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Russell Westbrook | PG | UCLA |
| Anaylsis - Knicks go international player here and it may be a huge mistake. The Knicks should have kept Isiah Thomas as a draft consultant. Gallinari is a solid player and will be a nice role player but you have to take a guaranteed starter with the 6th pick in the draft. He's a good playmaker that will fit into D'Antoni's system nicely, but should he play over Quentin Richardson? I don't think so. Poor selection here. |
| 7. Los Angeles Clippers |
Eric Gordon | SG | Indiana |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Brook Lopez | C | Stanford |
| Anaylsis - Extremely smart pick by Elgin Baylor. The Clippers are missing both a shooting guard and a point guard and they just filled that deficit with a great player. Gordon is the second coming of Mitch Richmond. He's a great outside shooter, great at attacking the basket, and can create for everybody. Gordon will average nearly 20 ppg for his career. Elgin didn't screw this up. |
| 8. Milwaukee Bucks |
Joe Alexander | SF | West Virginia |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Jerryd Bayless | PG | Arizona |
| Anaylsis - It's a solid pick because Joe Alexander can score at will, but with an imminent trade of Richard Jefferson coming, why do you double the small forward position? Alexander gives them a versatile scorer, a solid rebounder, and a great attitude. This would have been better with a selection of Darrell Arthur or any other power forward to fill that void. Good pick, but could've been better. |
| 9. Charlotte Bobcats |
D.J. Augustin | PG | Texas |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
D.J. Augustin | PG | Texas |
| Anaylsis - Augustin is a steal here for the Bobcats. He's possibly the best player available and he allows Raymond Felton to be more of an athlete than a point guard. Augustin can score at a high volume, distribute at a high level, and can shoot the lights out. He's a pure point guard and will blossom under Larry Brown's schooling. Great pick by Charlotte even though it's a risk. |
| 10. New Jersey Nets |
Brook Lopez | C | Stanford |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Danilo Gallinari | SF | Italy |
| Anaylsis - Lopez is the safe pick here. He isn't going to be a bad center but his ceiling isn't very high. He's going to be a nice option the throw the ball into. The Nets have nothing inside but Lopez' lack of rebounding ability is a major issue. He has to get much tougher on defense and he has to find a way to run the floor better. Solid pick but could've been much better. |
| 11. Indiana Pacers |
Jerryd Bayless | PG | Arizona |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Joe Alexander | SF | West Virginia |
| Anaylsis - Clearly the Pacers don't trust T.J. Ford's health and want to go with a two point guard attack in Jim O'Brien's system. Bayless is a project and may not end up being a true point guard, but he's one of the best young guards in the draft and he is a fantastic scoring. Bayless has to improve his decision making on the court but this is a great risk by Indiana. |
| 12. Sacramento Kings |
Jason Thompson | PF | Rider |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Mario Chalmers | PG | Kansas |
| Anaylsis - Once again, Geoff Petrie goes with a guy from a small school and once again he looks like a freaking genius. I love this pick for the Kings and I don't know why I didn't guess it. Thompson is a great athlete and has a lot of offensive skill. He needs to improve his post defense a little bit, but he's a relentless force on the glass and he should be able to step right in and contribute. Great pick. |
| 13. Portland Trailblazers |
Brandon Rush | SG | Kansas |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Brandon Rush | SG | Kansas |
| Anaylsis - The Blazers go with their tradition of grabbing guys that have had torn ACLs. Rush is going to be able to provide a lot of scoring off the bench and will be a valuable three-point shooter off the bench. The Blazers can still trade Travis Outlaw to get a point guard. Rush's durability is a question, but his ability is solid. Good pick. |
| 14. Golden State Warriors |
Anthony Randolph | PF | LSU |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
DeAndre Jordan | C | Texas A&M |
| Anaylsis - This is a bit of a stretch in my opinion for the Warriors. Randolph is a big time project and he can't be a contributor any time soon. Randolph is all kinds of athletic and can jump out of the county. Randolph has a solid skill set but he is extremely weak physically. He'll have to add a lot of muscle to handle contact inside but he could develop into a nice player. Decent pick but a bit of a stretch. |
| 15. Phoenix Suns |
Robin Lopez | C | Stanford |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Donte Greene | SF | Syracuse |
| Anaylsis - Steve Kerr is failing as a GM. This is a terrible pick right now. Lopez is a good defender but he is nowhere near the best player on the board. This is a team in desperate need of someone to fill the void that Shawn Marion left and Donte Greene would've fit that perfectly. Terrible pick by Kerr. Get your office packed up. |
| 16. Philadelphia 76ers |
Marreese Speights | PF/C | Florida |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Kostas Koufos | C | Ohio State |
| Anaylsis - This is a smart pick by Philly. Speights is able to run the floor and play like a Elton Brand/Al Horford type of athlete. Speights is still raw offensively in the post but he can shoot from mid-range. He doesn't have the best motor in the world and has conditioning problems but that can be fixed with a great training staff. Solid pick here and a safe one. |
| 17. Indiana Pacers |
Roy Hibbert | C | Georgetown |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Anthony Randolph | PF | LSU |
| Anaylsis - I have to be honest that I don't understand this pick at all. I think this is a stretch for Indiana and feel like they could do much better with remaining big men. Hibbert gives them a decent rebounder, a decent scorer in the post, and a really good passer. Hibbert is really slow and won't fit well in O'Brien's system. This is a stretch of a pick and I think a bad decision. |
| 18. Washington Wizards |
JaVale McGee | C | Nevada |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
JaVale McGee | C | Nevada |
| Anaylsis - McGee has been the assumed pick for a while and it's no surprise. The Wizards badly need a good presence inside and McGee can develop into that. He's a good shotblocker and has a good touch around the basket. McGee gives them an insurance policy in case Etan Thomas can't return and in case Antawn Jamison leaves. Good pick. |
| 19. Cleveland Cavaliers |
J.J. Hickson | PF | NC State |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Darrell Arthur | PF | Kansas |
| Anaylsis - Hickson has great offensive skill set and does a great job around the basket. Hickson can get up and down the court and can guard both forward positions. His biggest issue is that he's under sized and from all accounts, not a good worker. But he's still very talented and can definitely fill a void inside for the Cavs. Solid pick. |
| 20. Charlotte Bobcats |
Alexis Ajinca | PF | France |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Roy Hibbert | C | Georgetown |
| Anaylsis - This is a surprising pick. They must feel that he can do in competition what he did in workouts. He's an extremely long person and moves well around the basket. Ajinca can score but he has to add some muscle and try to not be so French. Not a bad pick, but surprising. |
| 21. New Jersey Nets |
Ryan Anderson | PF | Cal-Berkeley |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Marreese Speights | PF/C | Florida |
| Anaylsis - This is a pick that could've been had in the second round. I don't understand how Anderson gets picked up before Darrell Arthur. Anderson can score but at best he's a 7th guy in the rotation. Bad pick by New Jersey. |
| 22. Orlando Magic |
Courtney Lee | SG | Western Kentucky |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Courtney Lee | SG | Western Kentucky |
| Anaylsis - My mancrush on Courtney Lee has been validated. This is a perfect fit for both Lee and Orlando. Lee will be able to step in right away and provide a solid 4th scoring option for the Magic. He can stretch the floor, attack the basket, and play good defense. He's a little undersized but he can flat out play. |
| 23. Utah Jazz |
Kostas Koufos | C | Ohio State |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Robin Lopez | C | Stanford |
| Anaylsis - This is a predictable pick for Utah. He's a project big man but he can score in a variety of ways. He provides Utah with an insurance policy in case Okur leaves when his contract is up. It's a good pick because Koufos could've gone anywhere in the 10 previous picks. |
| 24. Seattle Supersonics |
Serge Ibaka | PF | Congo |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Serge Ibaka | PF | Congo |
| Anaylsis - Very solid pick for the Sonics here. He's probably the best athlete in the draft and he has a lot of potential to be a starting power forward in this league. He's going to stay in Europe for a few years so the Sonics don't have to worry about him now. Great pick by Sam Presti. |
| 25. Houston Rockets |
Nicolas Batum | SF | France |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Alexis Ajinca | PF | France |
| Anaylsis - I think this is a big time mistake with Darrell Arthur still on the board. Batum is a nice player but he won't be anything significant anytime soon. Batum has a sweet offensive game but doesn't handle the ball very well. Poor decision by the Rockets here because a much better player was on the board. Sorry, Adam Sweeney. |
| 26. San Antonio Spurs |
George Hill | PG | IUPUI |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Ante Tomic | C | Croatia |
| Anaylsis - Terrible decision by the Spurs, which is odd to say. Hill is a player that the Spurs could've had in the second round. And late in the second round at that. What about Mario Chalmers? What about Darrell Arthur? This is just a shocking thing to say but terrible pick by San Antonio. |
| 27. Portland Trailblazers |
Darrell Arthur | PF | Kansas |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Nicolas Batum | SF | France |
| Anaylsis - Probably the steal of the draft. Arthur is probably a top-10 player in this draft and top-15 at worst. The fact that Portland will get them with the 27th pick and trade for Jerryd Bayless too is absurd. Arthur is a great scorer and will compliment the duo of Oden and Aldridge perfectly. Great selection, lucky selection. |
| 28. Memphis Grizzlies |
Donte Greene | SF | Syracuse |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
J.J. Hickson | PF | NC State |
| Anaylsis - Very surprising considering that DeAndre Jordan is still on the board. Greene plays the same position as Rudy Gay and he has a terrible meter of when to shoot. Greene is definitely not a good pick here and I think that Memphis really missed a chance to round out their starting lineup with Jordan. |
| 29. Detroit Pistons |
D.J. White | PF | Indiana |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Chris Douglas-Roberts | SG | Memphis |
| Anaylsis - If White didn't hurt himself last season, he'd be a top-20 pick in this draft. This is another great pick by Joe Dumars at the end of the first round. The Pistons needed a center more than they needed a power forward but White is such a good player that it's a good pick for Detroit. |
| 30. Boston Celtics |
J.R. Giddens | SG | New Mexico |
| Talkhoops.net Mock Draft Prediction |
Jamont Gordon | SG | Mississippi State |
| Anaylsis - This is a surprising pick but only because everyone expected him to be a mid-second round pick. He has the talent of a lottery pick but is a problem child. It's a risky pick by Boston but with their veteran presence, they can set him on the right path. Good pick. |
