Want to Write for Talkhoops.net?

We're always looking for talented and ambitious writers to contribute to Talkhoops.net. Here are the parameters for writing for our site:

1. We're looking for sharp knowledge about the NBA. There shouldn't be articles like the Lakers should get LeBron and Dwyane Wade to go with Kobe.

2. You need to be somewhat entertaining. Have fun with what you're writing and make it relevant to today's world.

3. Proofread what you submit. Spellcheck it and check the grammar. I want it as tight as possible.

4. This at the moment is not a paying job. In the future, it most likely could be, that's going to be quite a while. This is an opportunity to have your voice heard by thousands of readers and to express your feelings on basketball today.

5. When you submit something to me, it only goes to me. Once something is submitted to Talkhoops.net, you cannot have it posted on another website without our consent. We essentially own it.

If these sound like reasonable requests and you love to write about basketball, submit some writing to writeforus@talkhoops.net or zharper@talkhoops.net. Thanks for your continued support.

Houston Rockets - Portland Trailblazers - Memphis Grizzlies
bobsHouston gets -
SF Donte Greene
PF Joey Dorsey
2009 2nd round pick
denPortland gets -
SF Nicolas Batum
denMemphis gets -
PF Darrell Arthur
Why Houston does this deal - They wanted Kevin Love all along but felt that they had to grab Mayo so that they could acquire more assets. Now they end up with better cap relief and a very good weapon in Mike Miller. Surprisingly, Kevin McHale made a great trade.
Why Portland does this deal - Mayo is probably the third best player in this draft at worst. Grizzlies feel that Mayo and Mike Conley will be a dynamic back court in the future and in an up-tempo system, they could really cause problems for other teams.
Why Memphis does this deal - Mayo is probably the third best player in this draft at worst. Grizzlies feel that Mayo and Mike Conley will be a dynamic back court in the future and in an up-tempo system, they could really cause problems for other teams.
Grade for Houston : A+
Grade for Portland : B-
Grade for Memphis : B
Winner of the Deal - Houston filled 2 needs with this trade.

Grade for Minnesota : A
Grade for Memphis : B+
Winner of the Deal - Minnesota because they get a better cap situation.

Chicago Bulls - Portland Trailblazers - Denver Nuggets
bobsChicago gets -
C Omer Asik
denPortland gets -
2009 2nd Rd Pick (D)
2nd Rd Pick (C)
2nd Rd Pick (C)
denDenver gets -
SG Sonny Weems
Why Chicago does this deal - They get a highly coveted Euro big man for a couple of 2nd round picks and someone that wouldn't make the team.
Why Portland does this deal - When they don't have someone they think they can use, they typically deal that player for future picks . Once again, they stock piled picks.
Why Denver does this deal - They gave up a bad 2nd round pick in next year's draft for a player that could make the team.
Grade for Chicago : B-
Grade for Portland : C-
Grade for Denver : D+
Winner of the Deal - Chicago because they get the best player so far.

Cleveland Cavaliers - Miami Heat
bobsCleveland gets -
PF Darnell Jackson
denMiami gets -
2009 2nd round pick
Why Cleveland does this deal - Cavs get to try out a national champion big man for a backup role.
Why Miami does this deal - Miami feels like they can get a better player in the second round next year. Plus they're now set at power forward.
Grade for Cleveland : B-
Grade for Miami : D+
Winner of the Deal - Cleveland gets a potential backup power forward for a pick in the 50s.

Los Angeles Clippers - Portland Trailblazers
bobsLA Clippers gets -
PG Mike Taylor
denPortland gets -
2009 2nd round pick
Why the Clippers do this deal - They are desperate for some point guard depth and gave up a probably insignificant pick to fill that need.
Why Portland does this deal - They certainly didn't need Taylor and may end up getting a high second round pick next year.
Grade for Clippers : C
Grade for Portland : C+
Winner of the Deal - Portland because Taylor may not make it past the D-League.

San Antonio Spurs - Phoenix Suns
bobsSan Antonio gets -
SG Malik Hairston
2009 2nd round pick
Cash Considerations
denPhoenix gets -
PG Goran Dragic
Why San Antonio does this deal - Spurs get a much needed backup shooting guard and a second round pick for next draft.
Why Phoenix does this deal - Suns give up someone that wouldn't be third on the depth chart for a potential backup point guard of the future.
Grade for San Antonio: C+
Grade for Phoenix : B-
Winner of the Deal - Phoenix filled a need better than the Spurs here.

Boston Celtics - Washington Wizards
bobsBoston gets -
SF Bill Walker
denWashington gets -
Cash Considerations
Why Boston does this deal - This was a no-brainer. Celtics get a first round guy for the price of buying a second round pick. The rich get richer.
Why Washington does this deal - There's no reason to sell off a first round caliber player at all when he falls to you in the second round. Poor decision by the Wiz.
Grade for Boston : A
Grade for Washington : F
Winner of the Deal - Boston fleeced the Wizards here.

Charlotte Bobcats - Denver Nuggets
bobsCharlotte gets -
PF Alexis Ajinca
denDenver gets -
Future protected 1st round pick
Why Charlotte does this deal - Were able to comfortably use their 9th pick to get D.J. Augustin and still come back to get a big man later on in the first round.
Why Denver does this deal - They don't feel the point guard depth is there in the draft and are willing to completely sit out this draft because of it. I think they're giving away a chance at getting some depth and teams should never get themselves out of a draft.
Grade for Charlotte : A-
Grade for Denver : F
Winner of the Deal - Charlotte because they get to draft DJ Augustin and a first round big man

Portland Trailblazers - New Orleans Hornets
indPortland gets -
PF Darrell Arthur
torNew Orleans gets -
Cash Considerations
Why Portland does this deal - They spent probably $3 million to get a player that they considered taking 14 picks earlier. Paul Allen and Kevin Pritchard strike again.
Why New Orleans does this deal - The Hornets must be saving up for a new washing machine because they sold their only first round pick when they could actually use another big man
Grade for Portland : A+
Grade for New Orleans: F
Winner of the Deal - Portland bought one of the top 15 players in the draft

Minnesota Timberwolves - Miami Heat
indMinnesota gets -
Two 2nd Round Picks in 2009
Cash Considerations
torMiami gets -
PG Mario Chalmers
Why Minnesota does this deal - Minnesota felt like they didn't need a first round caliber player and would rather have Miami's 2nd round picks next year. It really doesn't make any sense for a team that had such terrible point guard play last year.
Why Miami does this deal - Miami badly needed a point guard and were able to grab a potential lottery pick for a little cash and two 2nd round picks next year.
Grade for Minnesota : D-
Grade for Miami : B+
Winner of the Deal - Miami because they gave up next to nothing for a lottery caliber point guard.

Detroit Pistons - Seattle Supersonics
indDetroit gets -
PF Walter Sharpe
C Trent Plaisted
torSeattle gets -
PF D.J. White
Why Detroit does this deal - Pistons are power forward heavy but wanted a defensive specialist so they acquired Sharpe. Plaisted is probably a D-League project but was briefly considered for the first round but could develop into a solid backup center for Detroit.
Why Seattle does this deal - Sonics gave up two 2nd round picks that probably wouldn't have even made their roster for a thrid 1st round pick. D.J. White fills a need at power forward and is a quality big man that can contribute right away.
Grade for Detroit : C+
Grade for Seattle : B
Winner of the Deal - Seattle because they acquired a third 1st round pick.

Indiana Pacers - Portland Trailblazers
indIndiana gets -
PG Jarrett Jack
SG Brandon Rush
PF Josh McRoberts
torPortland gets -
PG Jerryd Bayless
PF Ike Diogu
Why Indiana does this deal - Indiana wanted a more established back court to build with. Jarrett Jack had a nice season last year and Brandon Rush is college's version of a veteran player. Diogu didn't exactly fit in their system so giving him up was not a bad thing to do at all. The Pacers are rebuilding but with more experienced players.
Why Portland does this deal - They basically get a top-5 player in Bayless with their 13th pick and a player that was clearly expendable. Diogu can also give them a decent, versatile backup at the power forward and center positions. No brainer for Portland because they get such a good prospect at a position in need.
Grade for Indiana : A-
Grade for Portland : A+
Winner of the Deal - Portland because they got a top 5 talent for their 13th pick

New Jersey Nets - Milwaukee Bucks
indNew Jersey gets -
PF Yi Jianlin
SF Bobby Simmons
torMilwaukee gets -
SF Richard Jefferson
Why New Jersey does this deal - Nets are officially in rebuilding mode with this deal. They get some cap relief thanks to Simmons deal being one year shorter than Jefferson, and they get a prospect in Yi who wanted to shine in a big market. Money wise, this is a no-brainer for New Jersey. They will make a fortune with the Chinese influence from this trade.
Why Milwaukee does this deal - Yi didn't want to be in Milwaukee and Simmons is so injury prone that he never plays. Now they get to exchange those players for an All Star caliber player that will spread the floor with Michael Redd. It's a financial hit for Milwaukee, but Jefferson will play great in Scott Skiles' system.
Grade for New Jersey: B+
Grade for Milwaukee : A-
Winner of the Deal - Milwaukee because it's uncertain how good Yi Jianlin will be.

Indiana Pacers - Toronto Raptors
Indiana gets -
PG T.J. Ford
C Rasho Nesterovic
#17 pick in the first round
Toronto gets -
PF/C Jermaine O'Neal
Why Indiana does this deal - Jermaine O'Neal's health is unreliable, they acquire a second 1st round pick, and TJ Ford could be lights out in Jim O'Brien's system. Jamal Tinsley has worn out his welcome with Larry Bird and the Pacers get to begin the rebuilding process with O'Neal's presence away from the organization.
Why Toronto does this deal - T.J. Ford can no longer co-exist with Jose Calderon and Jose is a better point guard. Jermaine O'Neal when healthy is one of the best big men in the league and putting him alongside Chris Bosh makes it extremely tough for every front court in the league.
Grade for Indiana : B
Grade for Toronto : B+
Winner of the Deal - It's a push for now. We won't know until we know that these two guys are healthy.
