Knicks Bowl 5 in New York
Generally, I try to resign to ignoring what Stephon Marbury puts out into other people’s lives. I love the charity work he’s done and his push to make affordable shoes available to just about anyone that hasn’t crossed paths with Bernie Madoff. But for the most part, it’s become a desperate and sad grasp for attention and notoriety.

Along with everybody else, I was initially intrigued and then almost instantly taken aback by his Ustream antics when he decided to broadcast his life. It was a telling and horrifying look into what he has to deal with, both internally and externally to keep up this image that he wants to project. I don’t know if he’s still broadcasting his life and frankly, I don’t think I really want to know. It’s a reality that I don’t want to be a part of and I’d rather be ignorant to. It isn’t crazy or psychotic by any means; it’s just depressing.

With that said, I do follow him on Twitter because I feel like he’s potentially newsworthy. Maybe that’s hypocritical of me and it probably is. But it’s whatever. I noticed the other day that he was going off on ESPN. I quickly went to ESPN to see if there were any stories of him and the only one I could find was this one about him sitting out this season as a prelude to him returning in the 2010-2011 campaign. Is it enough for him to be furious and vengeful with ESPN? Not at all. But clearly when you read the following tweets from him, you’ll conclude that at least one side of the relationship, there’s plenty of bad blood collecting on the brain.

- ESPN your going to lose. Every little kid on the planet will know how you try to break people down as you build the people who you want up.

- You'll need to sensor some of the people that work at ESPN as there are some people there that have a laundry list of skelontons

Sorry, Stephon but it doesn’t exactly sound like love is love here. Obviously, there is more here than what was said. There’s some animosity towards ESPN for apparently covering the funerals of Steph’s relatives and I’m not going to get into the entire moral dilemma and debate about whether or not a public figure’s family events (such as funerals) should be covered because frankly, I don’t have the energy for that right now.

But I do feel like there is a certain part of Marbury that is either disconnected from reality (surprise, I know) or is playing the part of the kid who got caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to and is now fishing for any and every excuse to blame someone other than himself. At a certain point, you hope that he’ll realize the hole he’s dug for himself, whether he thinks the circumstances warranted it or not.

By the way, where have I seen this type of thing before....
